Developing an Acne Diet 101
An acne diet sounds like a wonderful idea. Hasn’t everybody heard that chocolate will give you pimples? We almost all have. If you think about it its not so far-fetched that by watching your diet you could prevent acne.
But, an acne diet is a very hard thing to establish. This is very personal and its based on your body’s unique response to certain foods. Progress, for the most part, will be trial and error. Watch your skin carefully. Make note of any changes. You could keep a photo journal. If and when your acne diminishes stick to the diet plan you are on at the time.
Here are some simple rules to get you started on an acne diet:
* Take in a lot more protein - Some dermatologists believe that protein is correlated with cleared skin. The reason for this belief is because protein has an enzyme that will limit the production of oils. Oily skin is very vulnerable to breakouts.
* Keep away from carbohydrates - You do not need to cut out carbs completely. However, you do need to limit them to about 40 percent of your diet. This is because carbohydrates have compounds in them that can stimulate oil production. This is why junk food has a reputation for causing acne. But actually junk food just is pretty high in carbs.
* Drinking green tea is very good for you - If you can, drink real green tea. The kind of green tea that you brew is the best kind. But, if you really don’t like it, the natural green tea drinks will work. Androgen production will be limited when you drink green tea. Breakouts have been known to be caused by a hormone called androgen.
* You must restrict the amount of salt you take in - Salt most always contains iodine. This is the reason why you hear table salt called “iodized salt.” Iodine is a major inflammatory agent in those with acne.
It is very important to watch what you eat and put on your face. If you currently have acne, you are more aware than most of what is contained in your beauty products. Look for oil-free moisturizers and natural or organic skin care lines. Products containing natural ingredients will least likely irritate your skin. Consider switching over to mineral makeup. Many dermatologists today believe that mineral makeup can really reduce breakouts and increase the results of your acne diet.
